Smart Turnout or Turn yourself out smart

Selfridges, the Great British Shopping Emporium, has recently launched a pop up store for the heritage brand Smart Turnout within it London flagship store, just in perfect time for Father’s Day on June 17th. Smart Turnout, which is a military regimental term, meaning to look your best and having a stylish appearance about ones self, has its roots firmly in the traditions of British military and old school style, Smart Turnout’s designs bring British heritage a contemporary feel, right down to the detail of the stripes and precision of the colours they use in their wares.

The quintessentially British brand is the brainchild of former Scots Guards officer Philip Turner. Having had his racing colours knitted for the Grand Military Gold Cup at Sandown, don’t you know, Philip looked to source a quality jumper in his regimental colours. Unable to find a retailer, he set out to make his own and it wasn’t long before his attire caught the eye of his fellow Guardsmen. Soon, Philip was producing not only jumpers, but ties, socks and a whole feast of accessories, now not only for his chums but us too.

Already celebrity fans include, Ewan McGregor, One Direction & comedy actor Jason Sudeikis.

Turner explains; “When I started Smart Turnout I envisioned the company to be about precision, quality and fine craftsmanship, all of which I attribute to British style. I wanted to develop clothing and accessories for men, which epitomised these details and brought British heritage alive”.
